AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR MICROBIOLOGY
Project: 2017 AMERICAN BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE FOR MINORITY STUDENTS
Client: American Society for Microbiology (ASM)
Role: Art Direction + Web Design + Logo Design
Background: ABRCMS, organized by the American Society for Microbiology is one of the largest, professional conferences for underrepresented minority students, military veterans, and persons with disabilities to pursue advanced training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). During the four-day conference, over 1,800 students participate in poster and oral presentations in twelve disciplines.
The challenge was to design an engaging, intuitive and easy to navigate website, without sacrificing the large amount of critical information. The framework had also to adapt to the different stages of the conference, from the registration period, the briefs presentation enrollment, and through the actual conference. I designed a simple full-width layout, with "modules" that could be substituted or taken away based on the conference timeline.
I opted for a vivid color palette for primary and call for actions, an elegant and easy to read sans serif typography, a simple iconography, and images from previous conferences. With its radiant outward shape and bright color scheme, the logo represents the collective diversity of the attending audience.
